Challenge

Help make holiday moments magical for fairlife consumers

At the end of July, 2024, fairlife^® asked us to create a custom host-your-own holiday hot chocolate party kit that fairlife consumers could enter to win — featuring delicious and nutritious fairlife chocolate ultra-filtered milk. Simply heat until steamy and you have hot chocolate! Add festive toppings and holiday decorations, and it’s a party.

Driven by fairlife’s commitment to sustainability, one of the goals was to employ reusable and recyclable materials.

DoubleTake Design had three months to conceive of the kit components; source, design and create all elements; manage fulfillment of all the kits with a food-safety certified center; carefully build each kit; and manage shipments to the lucky winners before Thanksgiving.

Concepts

The kit was to contain festive toppings and everything needed for a party of ten family members and friends. To continue engagement for the promotional contest, winners would be able to post photos of their hot chocolate party on social platforms and be entered to win fairlife holiday sweaters (shown here).

The DoubleTake Design team got to work and conceived of kit ideas that would evolve around a custom, branded serving platter or tray that the consumer could keep, and other items that could be reused, to reduce waste. We presented two kit options, with the visuals based on the fairlife holiday sweater design:

Promotional Kits

Chosen kit: Rustic hot chocolate bar

The selected kit featured a custom-designed and hand made (in the USA) pine tray with the fairlife wordmark branded into the wood, reusable Mason jars with blue lids containing several hot chocolate toppings, branded wooden scoops to serve the toppings, rolled wafer cookies, Kraft coffee cups and custom sleeves, napkins, a branded table runner, a “Welcome to the fairlife Hot Chocolate Bar” table tent, hot chocolate recipe cards to share with party guests, and a gift card for fairlifechocolate ultra-filtered milk — all packed with natural cotton that could be re-used as snow for holiday displays, and eco-friendly packing materials, as sustainability is a core value for the brand.

The kit arrived to the winners packed in a box sealed with custom designed eco-friendly packing tape featuring a gift tag announcing “Special Delivery from fairlife” and large winter-themed labels on the box sides. To save on printing/paper and add fun signage for the hot chocolate party, we designed a table tent that had instructions for how to set up the hot chocolate bar, the gift card to purchase fairlife chocolate ultra-filtered milk and nutrition facts on the inside, and festive “Welcome to the fairlife Hot Chocolate Bar” chalkboard graphics on the outside. Winners simply folded the piece into a square shape and taped it with the double stick tape to form the table tent for their party.

Fulfillment

Bringing the promotional kits from design to doorstep

Our design, print production and fulfillment team handled:

Designing and printing the welcome cards, napkins, table runners, hang tags, coffee sleeves, recipe cards and table tents (applying double stick tape after printing and scoring)
Designing the wooden tray and working with the US maker to select the right stain and wood thickness
Sourcing and laser engraving the wooden scoops
Inventory storage and tracking of all of the pieces and parts that made up the kit, providing updates as elements were received and ensuring they were all present and in good condition
Filling the Mason jars with the hot chocolate toppings in a food-safety certified facility
Hand tying twine around each Mason jar to add hang tags with the ingredient names

Rolling up the table runners and hand tying twine bows to keep them from being crushed during shipping
Adhering gift cards to and folding the table tents
Wrapping the recipe cards with a twine bow
Sourcing packing materials, utilizing eco-friendly and reusable materials where possible
Selecting the winners through a randomized system
Fulfillment of all of the promotional kits — requiring approximately 40,000 touch points — by filling each box to our design team’s specifications
Sealing the boxes with custom packing tape and labels, addressing and shipping to all of the winners — on time and on budget!
