Design upgrades modernize distributor's brand

Our colleagues at Element-R Partners brought a simple project to DoubleTake Design: redesign a manufacturers line card for Thermo/Cense, an industrial distributor providing thousands of instruments and components to buyers nationally.

The company owner was so pleased with the improved look of the simple one-page piece, he decided to continue the upgrade effort for the company’s full website, including a modernized logo update and identity package that celebrated the 50th anniversary of Thermo/Cense.

Products are the heart of the site and are now organized by the brands represented by Thermo/Cense, by the industries they are used in, and by product solution categories. We built the site in WordPress, designed so that future additions and updates can be made easily and to ensure that all products display consistently.

Content is minimal yet conveys a strong service focus on all pages, helping attract new customers who want a trusted resource.

A Multi-faceted User Journey

How to facilitate user access to a wide range of industrial components across various product types, manufacturers, and industries? Our solution was to implement a multi-faceted user journey system to streamline product discovery — empowering users to navigate product categories through three distinct pathways:

Product Type Exploration: On the “Product Solutions” page users can delve into each category to explore the available manufacturers and their specific product offerings. This approach enables users to research and compare a wide range of product types from various manufacturers.
Manufacturer-Driven Search: Users can select from manufacturers showcased on the homepage and “Our Brands” page, which allows people to navigate directly to their preferred manufacturers’ product offerings.
Industry-Specific Focus: The “Industries Served” page provides users with product recommendations based on their specific industry needs. This streamlines the process for users familiar with their industry’s specific sensor and instrument requirements.
With this three pronged product exploration system, a diverse base of users can efficiently locate the ideal sensor or instrument based on their preferred search method, promoting a more user-friendly and time-saving experience.

Logo Design

Wordmark Design

Keeping the logomark which had stood the test of time, we provided several design options for a more modern version of the logo, removing the drop shadow from the logomark and updating the company name (wordmark) with a more modern font treatment. We highlighted the forward slash in the company name and added the new tagline. As can be seen on the business cards and the new website, the forward slash within the Thermo/Cense name is now a repeating design element.

To mark the company’s 50th anniversary we created a special badge, which is featured on the cards and other company materials.
